The new Laboral Kutxa Baskonia coach recalls teamwork as the cornerstone for an exciting season in which he will have at his orders the roster “most beautiful to work with”.
Emotion, hard work, devotion and motivation: main values of the new coach who has been presented at the Buesa Arena pressroom. Accompanied by the club´s President Josean Querejeta, Marco Crespi has been presented in front of the media as the new head coach of the Vitorian team.
Josean Querejeta started off the presentation wishing him “the best of lucks, because this will be our luck too”.
Saski Baskonia president has claimed that he is “convinced that this year we are going to bring back our traditional values which we lost last year. These are the values of hard work and dedication, and we are going to leave aside the lack of compromise and making up of excuses that came along with us last year”.
Querejeta explained to the media that this season´s objective is to bring back our team values, “I hope we can get to be again, being aware of our limits, the team we have always been, a team that has always fought in every court and that has shown great character in order to be the best they can be”, he stated.
The President also talked about the new Project. “I believe we have made up an exciting and different team, we have slightly changed our signing policy. For the first time, instead of still having missing pieces, we have a lot of players at the start of this preseason. When the games start in September, we want to have a team desired by all. A team able to hook up our fans bringing hope and excitement”.
After the words by Josean Querejeta, Marco Crespi took the stand. The new Baskonia coach stated that he is “glad to be here to coach Baskonia. I´m thankful for the words of our President. My passion for working in basketball is great and being able to work for a club that has the work ethic as their style makes me really happy”.
Crespi noted that his “main objective when I coach is that the players give all the got in every practice and game with emotion. I think that when someone goes to the stadium to watch a game, or in front of the TV, he expects to encounter emotion and I believe that the emotion is the biggest motivation for a player”.
The one from Varese, a natural born hard worker, added that “whenever there is emotion, dedication and motivation then you can talk about playing style, but the first thing you have to do is feeling part of what you are doing”.
The Italian coach talked about his illusion for coming to Baskonia. “When I first talked to Josean I was dreaming about coming here. More than talking about our positions in ACB and Euroleague I want our players to progress individually. Not only in the technical aspect but in sacrifice. I want for them to go out in the court with a common mindset with an style in which all the players working together, they feel that individual roles are better too”.
The media were interested in the playing style fans are going to witness this season. “I don´t like to say Marco Crespi´s team. I like for everybody to have its own personality to do things, both in defence and offense. In offense I want everybody to think we play all together, in defence we have to press the ball full court” responded.
Last but not least Crespi expressed his illusion for the roster he is working with. “I always think that the roster I have is the most beautiful roster I could ever get and I try getting out the best out of them. I believe we have players with the culture of playing with one another”.
Fundamental role of the fans
Marco Crespi has not forgotten about the fans during his presentation and he pointed out their fundamental role during the season. He explained that the team lacks “superstars but we have players who are working great and can step it up. Our fans can be happy because they´ll have a crucial role for the team. The fans will support a team that fights and that´s pretty beautiful”.
