Former Baskonia player supports the capital increase and add his image to the campaign ‘I am Baskonia’.
Luis Scola has now become a shareholder in Saski Baskonia. One of the Baskonia icons recently wanted to join the capital increase to support a club that has given him much joy and made an impact on him. “I have many memories, many related to sports, but I keep the ones related with my life. I spent a key stage of my career in Vitoria, from 20 to 27 years old, grew up and lived there and I remember a lot of amazing people. In relation with sports it was great, with titles, Final Four, the playoffs … All of this makes Vitoria a special place for me and always will be”, he admits.
He is Baskonia’s living history. Today defends the colors of the Indiana Pacers in the best league of the world, the NBA, but his heart holds a special place for the club that saw him grow and mature as a player to become a world reference. “I feel Baskonia. It fills me with pride and excitement because it’s not only me, the club as well feels that way so I’m glad to be a part of it” he says.
The capital increase is intended to modernize the club and increase the financial strength to place Baskonia in a better position to face the future challenges that are presented under the motto ‘To be great is to compete with the greatest’. “This intention to return back to that place is nothing more or less than to be back where it belongs, because Baskonia has always been identified with fight until the end, competing with the best, winning trophies…” describes.
His association with Baskonia began in the mid-90s when he was very young. He met Alfredo Salazar for the first time and “got to know what Baskonia was”. For him, an institution “means pride, competition, fight, work, means to be serious and professional. For other people I do not know but for me it is a very big thing”. “I feel emotionally connected with the club and that will never change”. By supporting the capital increase, Scola has the opportunity to “contribute my two cents. It is a little help, I wish I could do more. Those who are carrying the weight are the directors and workers, the players, the fans, all the people who are there every day”.
Thousands of miles away from Vitoria, I try to follow the team every day. “I support them from far away, I enjoy victories and suffer defeats”. He also holds great memories of supporters. “Baskonia fans are probably the best in Spain. Hopefully they can engage in the campaign too”.
