The Baskonia player spent a great afternoon with ONE TEAM Baskonia and showed them tricks to improve their game.
Ilimane Diop, Baskonia ambassador of the ONE TEAM project, gave a pleasant surprise yesterday afternoon to the boys and girls that are part of the 5+11 Foundation team.
The Baskonia player came by the Aldabe Civic Center in order to spend a fun afternoon and get to know firsthand the work done by this group. This way he met the kids that are part of this charming project. Diop presented himself, talked with them and played for a while showing them different tricks to improve.
The children were really amazed, and very formal heard all the explanations given by one of their Baskonia idols. The youngsters, from 6 to 12 years, played, had fun and learnt a lot in a very special and different afternoon for them.
Ilimane Diop debuts as the “ambassador” this season and showed himself very happy because “allowing these kids to have fun is a great idea”. Diop explained that “helping these kids that need to be with people and keep it up seems very important to me”.
Laboral Kutxa Baskonia has made a clear bet this season for basketball as an integrative tool for groups at risk of social exclusion. This way, the group of boys and girls that learn and enjoy this game through ONE TEAM has grown since last season.
The Club, along with the 5+11 Foundation has doubled their efforts. Through the Gizarterako Association, that has been offering resources, social and personal reintegration projects for over 25 years. Chelo Ordejon, Gizarterako President, explained that through this initiative the kids “can be together, get a formation and have a competitive group as a role model”.
All these would not be possible without the inestimable help of Michelin. The French firm based in Vitoria has been for many years involved with the 5+11 Foundation, but this year they have also wanted to join the project One Team Baskonia as a sponsor.
Yesterday, Jaime De la Cal, External Relations of the Basque Country of the company assured that “Michelin is a company involved with the people in Vitoria”. De la Cal added that “as soon as they presented us the project we got involved because it fits with our values of compromise and team work”.
