The Vitorian team is the top scorer of the European competition since its creation on the year 2000.
Vitoria, November 25, 2014. Laboral Kutxa Baskonia will reach the spectacular figure of 25.000 scored points on the Euroleague during the game corresponding to Week 7 of the Regular Season, Thursday against Olympiacos at the Buesa Arena. Saski Baskonia is just thirty points away from making history in the European competition by becoming the first team to reach this magic figure. With 24.970 points in 309 games, the Vitorian club leads the Euroleague top scoring teams ranking, followed by FC Barcelona (24.895), Maccabi Tel Aviv (24.617) and Olympiacos (24.353).
The first basket for Baskonia in the Euroleague was made by Fabricio Oberto, who opened up the scoreboard in the first game of the recently created competition. That October 18, 2000, the then TAU Ceramica made his Euroleague debut against the historic Cibona VIP.
In the starting lineup they were Luis Scola and Sergi Vidal, both still active and it was a game in which Elmer Bennett shined with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals for a rating of 31. Oberto, the author of that special first basket, finished the game with 8 points and 3 rebounds.
The point number 10.000 was made by Casey Jacobsen with a three pointer in the game CSKA-TAU Ceramica, corresponding to the Top 16, the 1st of March 2006. The Californian small forward had 26 points and a rating of 29, his best ever scoring performance in European competition. He was part of the starting line-up formed by Pablo Prigioni, Travis Hansen, Luis Scola and Tiago Splitter.
24 points and 13 rebounds were the numbers by Mirza Teletovic in the night in which he scored the point 20.000 for Baskonia. It was against SLUC Nancy the 10th of November 2011 and the Bosnian was the top rated player of the team.
Teletovic also ranks second in the Top 5 scorers for Baskonia in the history of the Euroleague with 1.483 points in 120 games behind Luis Scola with 2.054 points. This list also features the current captain Fernando San Emeterio with 1.197 points in 125 games.
In these 15 years of Euroleague history, five of the twenty best individual scoring performances have been by Baskonia power forwards: Macijauskas scored 40 points against Asvel, Stombergas dropped 39 on AEK with that mythical 9/9 on three pointers. Last season Nocioni ended with 37 points in the victory at the Palau and Luis Scola got 36 against the German Bamberg.
