The official presentation of Tornike Shengelia has taken place this afternoon in the headquarters of Laboral Kutxa in Vitoria. The new Baskonia player signs for three seasons and will wear number 7.
Tornike Shengelia, the first Laboral Kutxa addition for the 2014/15 season has been officially presented. He arrived yesterday to Vitoria after the birth of his first child. “He´s fine, he´s just seven days old and It´s so hard for me to leave him but I know it must be this way”, said the new Baskonia player.
Shengelia assured that coming to Vitoria and Baskonia is “a step forward. It is one of the best European teams and I want to continue improving here”. The Georgian has been defined as “a player who can work in different positions. Do not work alone but instead prefers the teamwork. I come to work, I can do it in different positions and I want to help in any way I can”.
About his experience on the NBA, he said it was a very enriching and positive experience. “I gained particular expertise during practices thanks to my teammates in Brooklyn, being surrounded by superstars has helped me learn something new every day, and I´ll try to harness all this learnings in order to apply them through my career and share them with my new teammates”.
In Brooklyn he coincided with former Baskonia player the Bosnian Mirza Teletovic who also spoke great words to Shengelia about his former team and home. “Mirza said I was going to a great team and a very nice city, he was sure that I would be very good here”.
The new Baskonia player made a clear statement. “I´m here to show that I can play good”. The Media has been eager to know how the new addition to the roster is and Shengelia defines himself as a “fighter, I give my 200% on the court and try to give the best of me. I will keep on working in all aspects of my game. I´ve built trust and confidence and I want to be a dangerous player”.
At his presentation, Tornike was accompanied by Sports Director Felix Fernandez which communicated that the squad will start their preparation in the middle of August, around the 17th or 18th in order to make a proper preparation for the Spanish Supercup.
